News
During the evening hours of Thursday, February 27th, approximately nineteen vehicles were unlawfully entered in residential neighborhoods along Cahaba Valley Road near Doug Baker Boulevard, in north Shelby County. Credit cards, checkbooks, cash, computers, phones and guns were all stolen from the vehicles. An unlocked vehicle with the keys left in it was also stolen from the same area that night. The common theme with these thefts is that all of the vehicles that were unlawfully entered and the one that was stolen were left unlocked.
In September of 2013, the Sheriff’s Office issued a press release advising residents of a similar night of thefts from cars in the same area. The common theme there was that most of the vehicles were unlocked. In November of 2013, the Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and surrounding law enforcement agencies launched the crime prevention and awareness campaign titled, “Lock It. Hide It. Keep It.” The focus of that campaign is to encourage residents to help us help them prevent property crime.
The message is simple: •Lock It: Lock your vehicle every time you leave it unattended and always lock your valuables in the trunk.
•Hide It: If you don’t have a trunk, hide valuables under the seats, in the glove box, or other compartments within the vehicle.
•Keep It: Personal responsibility is the best prevention to safeguard personal property and to prevent becoming a victim.
To reduce your chances of being a victim, please remove valuables from your car at night and lock your car's doors.
Sheriff’s investigators are currently looking into leads that may possibly identify suspects involved in last Thursday nights thefts, and have posted pictures of a person of interest on the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Anyone with information about last Thursday night’s thefts is urged to contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office directly at (205)669-4181, through the Secret Witness line at (205)669-9116 or through our website at www.ShelbySO.com by clicking on the “Report Criminal Activity” link and choosing the “General Information” category.

Mailbox Scrolls
Remember that a mailbox must be maintained, just as the entire property must be maintained. The protective covenants state the following: "MAILBOXES. All mailboxes and posts must be of a design specified by the Developer. Owners must keep mailboxes properly maintained in working order and with a clean and attractive appearance."
The EPHOA has purchased an allotment of "S Scrolls" for aluminum mailboxes which are missing the part. Our local mailbox vendor, Alabama Mailbox Company, has provided the scrolls to Eagle Point at a discount. You may pick up a scroll from the YourOffice, 4000 Eagle Point Corp. You can also contact the HOA at [email protected] or 314.5793. Payment of $30.00 should be made to Eagle Point Homeowners Association. The regular price for this part is $40.00. Installation can be provided upon request. Please help us improve the appearance of Eagle Point!
Garage Sale
The Eagle Point Spring Neighborhood Garage Sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Just put a red balloon on your mailbox to let shoppers know you are participating. The EPHOA will put an ad in the Birmingham

Deputy Receives Medal of Valor
On Friday, March 14, 2014, Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry presented School Resource Office, Deputy David Morrow, with the National Sheriff’s Association’s Medal of Valor. The presentation was made during a surprise school pep rally at Chelsea Middle School recognizing Deputy Morrow’s heroic actions during February of 2013 when Ryan Matthew Sims held five frightened Chelsea Middle School girls at gunpoint. Deputy Morrow and Chelsea Middle School Principal, William Harper, calmly negotiated with Sims resulting in peacefully disarming him. Each year, a little over 20 people are presented with the Medal of Valor nationwide for “an act of outstanding personal bravery, intelligently performed, in the line of duty at imminent personal hazard of life.” Upon receiving the award Deputy Morrow stated, “This is a very, very big shock, but it’s a great honor. I wouldn’t want to relive last year, but I’m thankful that you guys, the staff and students, were prepared enough to know what to do in a time of crisis. I appreciate you very much.”

Eagle Eye Alert
Dog Found: Double Oak Mountain Animal Clinic, 5490 Hwy 280, 205-991-5446, received a dog from a resident of Eagle Point. The dog was wandering the neighborhood. He is brown/white, 70 pounds, bulldog/pitfull mix. He has a chip but it has not been updated. Double Oak will only be able to hold the dog until closing because of limited space.
Safety and Security
As you have probably noticed, several signs and a utility box in Eagle Point were vandalized with spray paint graffiti on January 28, 2014. Similar graffiti markings were drawn on both public and private property. These are similar markings which were painted in Eagle Point in April 2013. We encourage anyone with knowledge of this criminal behavior to contact the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at 205.669.4181. The HOA will be working to repair the costly damage, which requires using funds which were budgeted for other items in Eagle Point. Please let us know as well if you have any helpful information about the graffiti, by emailing us at [email protected].
