ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS:
Street parking continues to be a problem throughout the community.
In addition to causing a higher probability of theft, vehicles parked on our narrow streets create serious hazards by interfering with drivers’ visibility of children, runners, and bicyclists. Street parking produces further danger and irritation by obstructing emergency vehicles, school buses, and service and delivery vehicles.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Cahaba Valley Fire & EMR District and the Shelby County Board of Education have all asked the Eagle Point Homeowners Association to strongly discourage our residents from parking on the street.
To improve safety and visibility as well as discourage crime on our streets, we request the following:
• Please park vehicles in your garage.
• If it is impossible to park inside, please ensure your vehicles are in your driveway, locked with valuables removed.
This is a typical scene in Eagle Point. < Photo >
Thank you for your cooperation.

Residents, please remember that our neighborhood and public signage are not intended for your personal use to attach posters concerning lost pets. The posters are not only unsightly but the tape bakes in the sun and can cause permanent damage. Please send your messages to [email protected] so that we can properly relay your notice to the community. Your message will be broadcast via email to all recipients of the Eagle Pointer newsletter. Special bulletins can be sent out for issues that require immediate attention.

Sewer Board
On Monday August 12, the Shelby County Commission appointed a representative each from the Greystone and Eagle Point communities to serve on the newly created three-member board to review rate increases for the sewer system in the county's north end. The commission approved a board member from Greystone Residential Association and Eagle Point Homeowners Association to fill the two vacant seats on the board. Shelby County Water Services Manager Michael Cain is the board's third member. The group is charged with reviewing rate increases for SouthWest Water Company's sewer infrastructure in north Shelby County. Article on al.com: "North Shelby County sewer rate board gets members to review costs" http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/08/north_shelby_county_sewer_rate.html Article in Shelby County Reporter: "New sewer board to keep an eye on rising sewer rates in north Shelby County" http://www.shelbycountyreporter.com/2013/08/12/new-sewer-board-to-keep-an-eye-on-rising-sewer-rates-in-north-shelby-county/
Sewer Lift Stations
Our wastewater treatment (sewer) system, owned and operated by Southwest Water Company (SWWC), contains a series of "Lift Stations" throughout the service area. You probably have noticed several such stations in Eagle Point, which include some electrical equipment, a pump, and a concrete slab. We have experienced repeated failures at the station located at Eagle Point Drive and Farley Lane (adjacent to Eagle Trace). This has resulted in the discharge of raw untreated wastewater into our properties and storm sewer system. If you observe any problems with these Lift Stations in Eagle Point, please contact the SWWC Emergency Line at 408.1990 and advise the EPHOA at [email protected]. We will collect data and report to the company and the state authorities, and we will require corrective action by SWWC.
Safety and Security
Speeding
The EPHOA routinely receives complaints regarding speeding vehicles in our neighborhood. If you encounter any dangerous driving that should be dealt with immediately, please call the Shelby County Sheriff's department at 669-4181. Otherwise, please record the date and time of incident along with the driver's tag number and submit this information to the EPHOA at [email protected]. The EPHOA will then submit this information to the sheriff. We believe that encouraging all residents to participate in this feature of the neighborhood watch will increase safety in our neighborhood. With school starting soon, the Sheriff’s department has increased their drive through Eagle Point.
Safety
The EPHOA has developed the Realtime Security Alert System (RSAS) to quickly communicate potential safety and security-related issues to the residents of Eagle Point. The RSAS enables users to receive SMS text messages or emails related to street names in Eagle Point subdivision, as such notices are published on the website of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Log (http://shelbyso.com/ or http://dispatchlog.shelbyal.com). The RSAS continuously monitors the ShelbySO Dispatch Log for activity involving street names in Eagle Point subdivision, and automatically sends Alerts via SMS text message to the EPHOA Safety & Security Monitors. The Monitors will immediately assess the content of the Alert and use judgment and established priority guidelines to determine whether to broadcast the Alert to the entire Network. Eagle Point residents may log in at the homepage (http://www.ephoa.org/) and click on the link at the top labeled "ALERTS RSAS" to review terms of use and subscribe to the RSAS.

Found:
I found a very sweet, gentle dog in our neighborhood yesterday. I took her to the vet and had her checked out, given shots and a bath. The vet says she's a mixed breed and about 4 years old. I have sent out emails to find the owner. She is 23 pounds and was malnourished. She was afraid of the storm and stuck close to people. She is at Riverview Animal Hospital currently and I really don't want to have to take her to one of the shelters. I fell in love with her quickly. She rode very well in my car. If you know of anyone who might be interested in her, please let me know. ......

Safety and Security
Concerned Homeowners:
The EPHOA would like to thank all residents for helping us minimize the problems we have experienced with vehicles parked on our streets. Thank you for responding to our notices. Homeowners clearly have strong opinions about the issue of street-parking, both opposed and in favor. Our intent is never to harass homeowners or be interpreted as disrespectful. We are fortunate to have an exceptional neighborhood with fine people and all the EPHOA does is intended to support that environment. We are certainly sympathetic to families with more drivers and vehicles than a garage can support. Our primary concern has always been for the safety and security of Eagle Point, and to that end we have made an effort to address the crowded streets in particular areas of the neighborhood. Everyone has read the statistics and recommendations to discourage street-parking, so we will not repeat them in this communication. However, please be advised that our requests have not been initiated by only a couple of neighbors, but through communication from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Cahaba Valley Fire and EMR, North Shelby Fire District, Shelby County Board of Education, U.S. Postal Service, and Waste Management. In addition to minimizing street-parking, officials want us to be aware that parking on both sides of the street is especially problematic when there is an emergency. Also, the fire departments need your cooperation to keep the areas adjacent to fire hydrants clear. Alabama Code 32-5A-137 states that “no person shall stand, stop, or park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.” The Sheriff’s Office will issue verbal warning and written citations for violations. As needed, we are proposing to hold a town hall meeting to allow homeowners to discuss street-parking in Eagle Point, with the goal of reaching a consensus that all homeowners can live with and abide by.
