Post Storm Update #2
A message from EPHOA President, Misti Steed:
This morning, I spoke with Major Clay Hammac, Operations Commander for Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. I expressed the deep appreciation that all Eagle Point residents have for the dedication of each and every deputy who’s served our community since disaster struck on March 25th. Some deputies who have served us had damage at their own homes and still continued to offer us protection while their families began recovery efforts. Our deputies tried to give our residents time to get through the initial crisis with as much dignity and privacy as they could.
While the Sheriff’s Office will still have an increased presence throughout Eagle Point, we will no longer have overnight checkpoints at our entrances. If you see something suspicious, call 911. Try to get the tag number of any suspicious vehicle. I ask that no one confront a passerby – tensions are high all around, and confrontations could turn bad quickly.
Please be considerate of your neighbors who have significant damage from the storm. Even our own Eagle Point residents who are “sightseeing” feel like an intrusion to someone who is sorting through their family’s belongings. That being said, your Board members and our admin from YourOffice are out and about almost all day monitoring the debris removal process in an effort to direct resources where they are needed the most. We are all trying to be accessible and considerate while we monitor.
Patience is still in order for what lies ahead. We are in for a LONG process of cleanup and rebuilding. Everyone is doing the best they can, so please extend grace to each other during this stressful time.

Per our contacts at the County, they will continue debris removal through April 10th. Please have all your debris curbside by that day - wood and vegetation only. Do not include household items or metal. They are burning as much debris as they can.
Please keep in mind that we do not direct the efforts of the County employees and are simply doing the best we can to communicate our needs. Damage exists throughout the County, and everyone is operating full throttle, doing the best they can. We do not communicate individual addresses to the County, as they are directing their crews to clear entire streets as they are able. Patience is still the order or the day.
Eagle Pointer re: ARCC forms
A message from EPHOA President, Misti Steed
You’ll find below the link to the form for submitting exterior alterations to the Board for approval. We realize there is much to be done and that everyone is anxious to begin repairing and rebuilding.
To avoid future issues, we ask that you submit your fence designs, shingle color, exterior paint colors, garage door colors, etc. You can submit the form to [email protected]. We are turning around approvals as fast as we can! Thanks in advance for abiding by the covenants.
Post Storm Update #4
A message from EPHOA President, Misti Steed
Eagle Point looks considerably better because of the Herculean efforts of our County crews - we owe them a debt of thanks. Any future debris pickups by Shelby County should be considered a happy surprise. They are now allocating resources to other areas that have storm damage. CONTRARY TO WHAT SOME FOLKS TELL ME THEY HAVE HEARD, EPHOA DOES NOT DIRECT THE EFFORTS OF SHELBY COUNTY RESOURCES.
If County crews make their way back to Eagle Point, they will only pick up trees, wooden fences, and other natural organic items that can be burned. Our contacts at Shelby County will keep us updated regarding the possibility of future pickups, and we will pass along information as it comes to us.
Household debris such as furniture, appliances, and mattresses cannot be burned and must be hauled to the landfill by the homeowner or by whatever service provider a homeowner employs. Shelby County will not pick up these materials, and removal is the responsibility of the homeowner. We recommend that you contact your insurance company to see if your policy covers debris removal.
We have not as of yet qualified for Federal aid for uninsured losses. When and if our area does qualify for that aid, FEMA doesn’t roll in with cranes and bulldozers and such. Folks don’t need to be thinking that there’s a big “extreme home-like” team that will show up when (hopefully) we become a Federal disaster area. Approval for Federal aid from storms on January 25th only happened in last couple weeks.
Contacts I’ve made who specialize in disaster relief have given me overwhelmingly positive feedback on the progress we have made so far. After the rescue and recovery on the day of the storm, we were quickly an area considered safe, sanitary, and secure with working utilities. Thanks to our community - neighbors, strangers, churches, and other volunteers - Eagle Point was covered in volunteers for days following the storm! With the County’s help with debris removal, we have moved along more quickly than other areas affected by the tornadoes that same day.
My mind and my emotions are overwhelmed daily when I try to connect residents to resources and to relay information from person to person. That’s why I share the positive feedback from people who are trained in disaster recovery - so I can keep going when I feel helpless in the face of so much loss. Your volunteer Board members and our management agency, none of whom have any experience with this kind of thing, are all working every day to get Eagle Point back to normal as soon as we can get there. I ask for your patience and support for us as we continue to work on your behalf.

Storm Update #5
A Message from EPHOA President, Misti Steed
We’ve received an update from Shelby County who advised that Eagle Point residents may place the following curbside (but not in street) until Sunday, April 25th: storm debris that includes trees, wooden fences, and other natural organic items that can be burned. The Shelby County highway department will do their final pick up on Monday, April 26th and on Tuesday, April 27th if necessary. ADEM’s state wide burn ban goes into effect May 1st, and the County needs time to haul and complete the burn. This is a drop dead date.
This will be the final pick up and does not include any household items such as furniture, metal, mattresses, etc. The County will not pick up any of these items. Removal of these items is the responsibility of the homeowner.
